Tales for Santa! Meet the unique JiM Fairy Tales

Fairy tales have accompanied us since childhood. They teach, stimulate imagination and develop sensitivity. We present to you their unique version. "JiM Fairy Tales" is a collection of 5 works, whose authors and heroes are people with autism and their parents.

Do you know a colorful dragon with a nice, barky smile who was not afraid of the dentist? And the boy with yellow headphones and Green Riding Hood? These are characters from fairy tales, whose heroes and authors are autistic people and their parents. The works you will find in the collection "JiM Fairy Tales" teach empathy and sensitivity to others. They are all the more valuable because of the authors, who show in them their values, emotions and needs. They describe the reality (literally and metaphorically), an integral part of which is autism and through which they are the most reliable guide. The reader learns, among other things, why Szymek from the cartoon wears large headphones, what abilities can distinguish autistic people, what causes them discomfort, how they perceive stimuli coming from the environment. And that helping autistic people can sometimes be easier than we think - acceptance and openness can change their lives for the better.

"JiM Fairy Tales," on the one hand, exemplify the literary talent and extraordinary imagination of children on the autism spectrum and their loved ones. On the other hand, they bring their world closer and help explain it, explain behaviors often met with a lack of acceptance or understanding from those around them.

What prompted the authors of the fairy tales to write them? "For years I tried to accept autism, to tame it. Observing how much a child is rejected in the yard, on the mpk, in stores, the disdainful and judgmental glances of people made me decide to write some fairy tales along with a lesson plan. I still hope that raising awareness will result in fewer parents, siblings of children with disabilities and these kids being rejected," wrote Zofia Sujka-Kysiak, mother of Olek and Ola and Magda.

We would like to thank the authors of the fairy tales for participating in the project and creating a unique book: Cezary Jaworek, Agata Babijów-Grzywacz, Zofia Sujka-Kysiak, Julia Giermakowska and Katarzyna Pabiańczyk.
